Sound move for the Bikini boys

HUDDERSFIELD indie-pop band Bikini Black Special have signed up to a record label.
The band have joined Leeds independent label Sound People and plan to start releasing singles in the New Year.
Until recently, Bikini Black Special had distributed their own demo EPs, which have been recorded at HD1 Studios in Huddersfield.
Bass player Adam Sewell said: “We’re proud of our Huddersfield links. Hopefully we can create a real buzz and put Huddersfield on the map when we start releasing singles in the New Year.”
The band are celebrating their success by playing a gig at Huddersfield University Student Union on November 27, from 8pm.
Signing the deal is a milestone for Bikini Black Special, who have endured several line-up changes since forming in 2003.
Adam and Luke had played together since junior school and at Salendine Nook High School, they formed a band called The Wahs, but realised a twosome was not for them and went about forming the band.
Their unusual moniker came from one of the members seeing the term at a military airbase. It is a grade on the BIKINI alert system, which means there is an increased likelihood of an attack, but no defined target.
The current line-up features Adam on bass, Stevo Coward on vocals, Luke Fitton on lead guitar, Adam Scott on rhythm guitar and Chris Bunyan on drums.
They are now a tightly honed unit and ready to aim high with their ambitions.
Adam said: “Our brand of catchy indie-pop rock has won over many people and our local profile has grown dramatically. With this next stage of our growth we intend to continue producing the music that people can dance to and enjoy and also to reach a much wider audience.”

Waking the Witch
Our new CD, ‘Boys from the Abattoir' are available to download from 29th January 2007 and from all good online and high street record shops
from 5th February.
When Waking the Witch are asked to describe their music, it still results in a pause for thought, even after three years of non-stop touring. "We're four girls who all write our own songs, all sing and all play acoustic guitar", is invariably the response, but, the reality goes deeper than this. The melodies are rooted in folk and R&B, rock and jazz, blues and acoustic roots, all served up with layer upon layer of lush, complex vocal harmonies. The result is a sound that blends and transcends any one genre into something unique and personal. As it has been said many times, it is simply impossible to pigeonhole this band.

Jane Mcdonald in the Studio

Jane says "I had a brilliant time recording both backing vocals, and my main vocals at HD1 studio's, the engineers (mainly Jason) were very professional and their input valuable.
Also plenty of cups of tea and water were on hand all day and night. I will definitely use this studio in the future."
